What Is Festival of Life

Festival of life is a district event for students in grades 7-12. This event gives students the opportunity to compete/perform in a variety of areas. Students in grades 9-12 that place highest in their area of competition will be invited to compete at Regional FOL at Eastern Nazarene College in March. Philly District FOL Rules

Philly District FOL Rules See District Rulebook for more details Note: For all events, students in grades 7-8 will be considered OPEN DIVISION. They are encouraged to participate and gain experience for future years. Students in grades 9-12 will be considered SR. DIVISION and will be eligible to advance to Boston. Communication Events: Students participating in the Digital Media event need to indicate that on this form. All digital media must be saved to a USB thumb drive and brought to District FOL. Students may participate in each category ONCE for individual events and NO MORE THAN TWICE for group events (as longs as the group members change in some way). For example, you may compete in one vocal solo and 2 vocal groups with different people, but not 3 vocal groups, etc… Students must sign up to compete in communications events on the registration form. NO CHANGES OR ADDITIONS will be accepted for communications events after Nov. 10th. Students will need to provide for the judges a completed Copyright Authorization Form (included in this packet) for any photocopied music or material that has not been purchased. Sheet music will also need to be provided to the judges. Students who cannot provide this documentation will be disqualified. Students will sign up for times at the FOL Check in Table. Performances will only be allowed in the scheduled time slot of the event. Arts & Crafts You do not need to sign up for arts & crafts events on your registration form. Sign-ups for arts and crafts will take place at the FOL registration table on Nov. 17th. Please bring completed arts & crafts projects with you to District FOL for judging, along with a completed and typed Arts and Crafts Information Sheet which is included in this packet. Students may not submit more than two entries in any arts & crafts category. However, the same student may not advance using both spots in the same event. Sports You do need to sign up for sports on your registration form. Please note: Students will not be allowed to just show up at the designated try-out time!!! You must sign up for sports at the registration table. Students may only try-out for TWO of the following events at District FOL: Basketball, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, math/ science, chess. Students will only qualify for the Regional FOL team in ONE of the above sports. Students will be asked to specify 1st and 2nd choice at sign-ups if trying out for more than one sport. Chess and table tennis will have a forfeit rule. If you sign up to participate, but do not show up for your scheduled time within 15 minutes, you will forfeit the round. Communications Events

Rule Acknowledgement

Registrants are absolutely not permitted to leave the lodging area after “lights out” All registrants must report to their local youth leader while at District FOL and must adhere to all rules and regulations of their local youth ministry. Every church MUST have a chaperone at the event.

I have read the District FOL Rulebook and agree to abide by these rules and all others set forth by the District NYI. Recognizing the significance of this event, I am willing to cooperate with my sponsors and submit to their authority in all areas. I understand that I may be sent home immediately at my family’s expense if I fail to abide by these rules.

Medical Release and Information (Must be completed to attend)

I hereby give authority to the District NYI and all adult chaperones and Festival of Life Staff to grant minor medical attention or to authorize emergency room treatment at any hospital, in the event of an emergency. I release said organization and adult volunteers/ staff from any liability.
